HD58x or HD6XX

more_vert
I am debating if I should get the HD58x or the HD6xx. I did some research but its still hard to chose. I'm mainly gaming and I don't have an amp. Well idk if the Blue Yeti counts as an amp or not. I will either plug this into my blue yeti or motherboard(link below). I'm a newbie to sounds and stuff so please dumb it down for me. If you have a recommendation of headphones that are better for gaming and listening to music comment it. Thanks for your help. I prefer the 58x. It does a lot of what the 6xx does only with a little more much needed bass. Perhaps my ears aren't good enough to take full advantage of the 6xx. The 6xx got to good'ish enough loudness on my motherboard which has similar worthless bs descriptions of actual performance like yours (note: I think I prefer things at lower volume than most so this might be a much bigger issue for you). However, sometimes you just really want to crank it up and you can't with the 6xx using a motherboard. The 58x is a little easier to power for low voltage devices and computers - but not significantly. (With 58x and motherboard) Using tidal I can max out all the volume sliders and not feel like I need to turn it down. If I had to guess it's around 80 to 83dB SPL (at 85 dB SPL OSHA requires earplugs for long exposures). It's better than the 6xx in this regard but perhaps still an issue for some. For competitive gaming neither headphone is all that great because they lack soundstage (the ability of a headphone to create a realistic audio space where the sound comes from->where foots steps are coming from). The AKG k7xx does soundstage much much better but I wouldn't recommend it over the 58x unless you were super serious about these things. I really dislike how the k7xx flops around on my head often placing the driver mostly behind my ears/ear canal completely changing how things sound.

If you don't plan on eventually getting an audio setup (with amp and a DAC), then go with the HD58x. However, the HD6XX is technically the better headphone.
