Fairdinkum2I learned all about the Passion Play but wasn't there for that - tickets were a few years out. It was simply part of a bus tour to Oberammergau set-up by the cruise line I was on (Avalon Waterways). We sailed along the Danube river starting in Vienna then to Durnstein - Melk (Austria), Grein - Linz (Austria), Linz - Passau (lower Bavaria, Germany.), and Munich (German state of Bavaria).
The cruise included bus tours to several small towns and cities along the way….10-days total. My hidden agenda was to search for used German made watches, vinyl records, and fountain pens. Didn't see too many used watches, in fact hardly any due to time constraints and location. I stumbled upon an army surplus store that had about 12-15 vintage German military field watches but they looked to be in really bad shape. Also found an antique store that had plenty of old watches but the shop keeper was hesitant to wind them up as proof of functionality. But I did see plenty of new watches of the most expensive brands Rolex, IWC, Tag, A. Lange & Sohne, Glashutte, and many more. All of the major brans had boutique shops setup all over Vienna, Munich, Linz and more. the international tourist were snapping up high price watches as if it were a fire sale….it was crazy!
In addition to my Zeppelin I came home with 8 jazz records (vinyl) which included Miles, Coltrane, and Monk to name a few. Found no fountain pens in my price range….bummer.

Fairdinkum2The Passion Play is only every 10 years, in years ending in 0. The next one will be in 2020. I was fortunate enough to see it in 1990.
