The Staedtler Mars Lumograph HB and 2B were my go-to pencils for years, before I took a deeper dive into the pencil world. The Palomino Golden Bear, HB and Blackwing (the Pearl is my favorite) are a nice entry into the pencil world. The Tombow Mono and Mitsubishi Hi-Uni are also very good pencils, and come in a bunch of lead grades, so you can try a couple and find what works best for you. Alternatively, for something on the cheaper side, the Apsara Absolute, and other pencils from Apsara and Nataraj, are surprisingly nice and well-made. For sharpeners, I use an Alvin Brass Bullet (small pocket sharpener, gives a small-ish point, but it's durable and easy to carry), a Palomino/Kum two-stage sharpener (longer point, but kinda cheap plastic casing), and an old Mead two-hole sharpener that I got years ago at an art supply store. I also have a larger hand-crank sharpener (Mitsubishi KH-20) that sits on my desk. It works great if you have a place to leave it and need to sharpen A LOT.
