for 7.1 surround sound on stereo headphones you will need to use Dolby headphone no headphone is truly 7.1 you can only really emulate it. Some pc apps have Dolby headphone as an option but if you want it from say a console you will need to buy either a turtle beach dss or astro mixamp.
Although I don't own a pair of 7xx I do own a pair of K702 and I would say they need an amp they are rated the same ohms and I imagine very similar in terms of sensitivity and for me the k702 cant be run very well on a standard output like phone or laptop.
Id recommend either an Antlion modmic which I use or a blue snowball a quick search on amazon will get you some good results.

No, these are stereo, 2-channel, headphones. I have K701's. They don't require an amp, so you're good, but If you want an external DAC/Amp combo to get the best these headphones can do, then the Schiit Stack (Magni/Modi combo) is a great choice. You'd run the DAC with optical out. Lastly, yes the Antlion Modmic.

Looking for a solid state headphone amp with 2 or more RCA inputs and an RCA output.
Does anyone know of a solid state headphone amp with 2 RCA inputs and a passthrough RCA output? The Xduoo TA-20 is nearly what I want, but I was looking for something solid state. No DAC needed.

CANS for METAL?
Cans for METAL? I have some Grado sr60e’s and AT ATH-AD700 but looking to upgrade. I’m not an audiophile (yet) but both of these I find “shimmery” and sometimes a bit harsh esp the Grados and a bit IDK empty? sounding. I mostly listen to metal/thrash but these will be probably my go-to’s in general. I’ve read a lot (probably too much..planar,dynamic, HE vs HD, etc) but just don’t know. I will drive with an amp (also would take a recommendation) and budget $300 or less for the headphones. Many thanks in advance.

I already have the Drop + THX Panda headphones which I love but would like a touch more punch to its base and am looking for a second pair of headphones. Looking forward to the different opinions and options thrown out there. Thanks in advance for all your suggestions. StaySafe & HappyListening Boomer 🎧🐼

Is it possible to use the Topping DX7 Pro headphones dac/amp as an amp only, bypassing the dac and feeding the amp from an Audioquest DragonFly? If possible, what cable would I need from the 3.5 mm socket of the DragonFly to what input in the DX7 Pro? Thank you all very much.

Panda Firmware Update 3/5
Hello Friends, Work continues on our sonarworks integration. We're nearing the end of that process and I can provide some context for this update. The update we're working on now is focused on two areas Sonarworks Integration Update Infrastructure We've talked about the benefits of Sonarworks (EQ, SoundID, etc) so let's focus on Update Infrastructure. Update Infrastructure is about what we can update and how we can deliver those updates. For this first update, some of you will need to update via USB C (installers will be provided for OSX/Win), but most of you, and all of you for all future updates, will be able to update over the air via the Sonarworks app. Beyond updating over the air, this update includes a variety of back-end changes that will address some QOL issues and enable further firmware development. Thanks for your patience, we'll be back next week with hopefully our last update before release.
