cbtlrthat was a lot of money down the drain could have gotten a 980ti on discount and overclocked it to about the same performance levels. the founders (reference) edition has a major thermal throttling problem. you should have either waited for aib partner boards to come out with better voltage regulation or just as i said gotten the 980Ti at a discount.

AlexPkJays2Cents on youtube did a video recently about the thermal issue, apparently the card is very conservative by default and throttles instead of ramping up the fan to keep it cool. Apparently Jay eliminated the issue by pinning the fan at like 80% and/or upping the temp target to 90ish. Also LinusTechTips, also on youtube, did some benchmarks of the 1080 and I think we can expect roughly a 15-30% FPS increase over a 980ti/Titan X @ 4k. Not bad.
