CANS for METAL?

more_vert
Cans for METAL? I have some Grado sr60e’s and AT ATH-AD700 but looking to upgrade. I’m not an audiophile (yet) but both of these I find “shimmery” and sometimes a bit harsh esp the Grados and a bit IDK empty? sounding. I mostly listen to metal/thrash but these will be probably my go-to’s in general. I’ve read a lot (probably too much..planar,dynamic, HE vs HD, etc) but just don’t know. I will drive with an amp (also would take a recommendation) and budget $300 or less for the headphones. Many thanks in advance.

Those 2 headphones are leaning towards the bright side. I personally find warmer/darker headphones sound better for metal. You gotta try the HD6XX/HD650. Later on you may want to get a tube amp as well.

personally I love beyerdynamic DT770 specifically the 80 ohm version. Others have less smooth treble. they sound so good for those types of music. You have to try them. I’ve owned several pairs and can give you more detail if you want

JustindthThanks! Those weren’t on my radar but now I will look into them. Appreciate the recommendation very much!
