Anyone using this beauty? It seems like the most feature-packed dac under $200. MQA support, 3.5mm and 4.4mm balanced headphone out, the unique balanced RCA ports- all under $200. My purpose would be to power up my IEMs.

Hahaha! Yeah this looks cool to me. Atleast it's not black or Silver.

I loathe...no...Make that despise the farce that is MQA. To be blunt, MQA is the ENC of the frAudiophile. Emperor's New Clothes. That said, it looks cool and may be otherwise a fine unit, so thank for sharing it here!

MQA is a lossy scam that forces a useless drm locked codec, so it shouldn’t be counted as a feature, stay away from it. More info about that here: https://amp.reddit.com/r/TIdaL/comments/k35jcx/mqa_is_basically_a_scam_and_should_be_not/

Look, while I agree with you that MQA is a questionable codec, it's a "feature" to plenty of people who use Tidal. Unfortunately, this post is very late to a party that's been going on for a number of years (as is the Reddit thread you posted). Most people know MQA isn't really what it says it is, but want the feature anyway. You can't sway the minds that are made up.

Agree with what you said. But it doesn’t mean that we should remain quiet about that, it’s like those audiophile stones that make treble more airy and rounds the base i.e. a scam. If I was less lazy and more into active citizenship I would sue Meridian Audio for advertising lossy duds as "lossless" to naive audiophiles. Also Deezer offers good old flac steaming and has more artists and songs count than Tidal.

how is it compared to iFi zen combo?

sound wise ?

Zen combo will have much more output power. The Khadas Tone 2 Pro is arguably a better dac than the iFi zen dac.

I have it together with the balanced cables. I love it! imo there is not much else you could ask for at this price point. For IEMs is great. It sounds very clean with my Meze Rai Penta on low-gain and i cannot hear any noise. I would recommend using the 4.4 output (especially if you have the Pentas). I also have a 5v linear power supply and am feeding power to it over the I2S port. I also use it every now and then over the balanced RCAs with my Vioelectric V281 and the sound is great, especially when running tidal. It complements the amp very good!

Wow ... that looks like a giant killer, eager to hear more about this. What's the catch?

not much power in the amp section and you need scpecial made balanced rca cables to use an external balanced amp

I’ve had mine for a couple of weeks. at first the wheel was a bit confusing, but after watching a well put together video I got the hang of it and there’s no issues now. There is more than enough power for my Sundara’s. That’s not a problem at all. MQA works well and I’m digging the sound through my speaker set up. Why did I buy it? Simple. I wanted to experience Full MQA and this delivers for $199.

At first, yes, but after playing around with it there’s no problem navigating.
