The future of the EDC and Outdoor Communities

more_vert
Hi everyone,   You may have noticed some changes to our site over the last few months that emphasize the Audiophile and Mechanical Keyboard Communities. We have seen tremendous growth in these Communities, and after much deliberation we have made the decision to focus our resources on these two Communities exclusively.   Over the last four years we have built a strong following and portfolio of products in the Everyday Carry and Outdoors Communities. To narrow our focus, we are transitioning our Drop Studio EDC and Outdoors products to Amazon.   We will be sunsetting the Everyday Carry and Outdoors Communities on Drop.com on March 23rd. Product pages will still be accessible by direct links or searching, and will retain their reviews and discussion sections. We are pleased to announce these products will continue to be available for purchase exclusively on Amazon. Moreover, new products will launch directly on Amazon, delivering new community-inspired products on the world's largest retail platform. Updates on these products will be shared via email to our existing Everyday Carry and Outdoor members.   This shift in focus will result in more consistent in-stock availability of these products, and will provide access to Amazon’s Prime 2-day shipping, as well as Amazon’s convenient return policy.    The Drop Store is currently live on Amazon with many of our products, with more being added every week. Please check our current stock of EDC and Outdoor gear below, and be sure to check back regularly for updates and additions.   We will also be sunsetting Watches on Drop.com, effective March 23rd. Any Watches-related product runs you’ve joined won’t be affected, and you’ll still see a few runs in our More Community Picks section.    From community polls and comment threads to the retail stage of the world, we couldn't have made these products without your contributions. While this is a big shift, we're excited to continue offering the Drop experience to new and existing customers through our partnership with Amazon.   Thank you, Drop

Maaaaaann… this is upsetting to me because the EDC section was the only one containing things I could afford 😂 furthermore, I got a Kershaw knife here years ago and carried it with me ever since. Favorite knife ever. Finally lost it and I come back to see if I can find that knife or a replacement, but Massdrop no longer carries them and neither does the quoted Amazon store. Hell, I have and still use an assortment of other things that I got from here roughly around 2015-2018 I believe, like my favorite kayaking/hiking wetbag and a chef knife (I’m a line cook). So I’m sad to see the change. There’s nowhere like it that I’m aware of. someone please create a new Massdrop, akin to the original, because it was such a great idea & website and I have no doubt it could succeed given the correct guidance. Keebs are cool and I have a couple in the $50-$80 range, but they will last me for years (already have) and besides, who can afford $200+ keyboards and $100 cap sets these days? If I spend that much on my battlestation anytime soon, it’s gonna be on internal hardware upgrades.

Wow. Hadn't checked in for a while. No EDC/knives? Not even Chinese knives? Keyboard stuff & niche audio... okee! Good luck!

Visited the drop page on Amazon, nothing but keyboards and headphones… Yep, they lost me…

Well, I just resubscribed to finally read this. I'll be deleting my account and moving on.

This was honestly tragic. Most of what I bought on Massdrop/Drop was in the EDC category, many of which were knives. I have no interest in mechanical keyboards and honesty most of the "audiophile" gear is anything but. Tragic. I wondered why i was no longer ever seeing anything I'd want to buy in your emails. Guess I'll unsubscribe.
I used to spend a lot of time and money on Massdrop. A few disappointing purchases, and the change to DROP™️ pushed me away. I thought I'd check back again to see if there were any keyboards I liked, but now this site is a shadow of its former self. RIP.

Seems like this kind of defeats the initial point of this whole site. Back when this used to cater to just about everyone, this was an awesome forum for choosing what people wanted and leveraging collective buying to make it happen. Now it's just the same as any other online shop. What a shame.

This is such a good example of some nitwits thinking simplifying is good for business. You lost the thing that made you unique and formed the core of how this community grew. In a couple of years the remaining bit of drop will be sucked up by amazon as well. All that will remain of massdrop is a footnote in history.
