Brand We Love: NovelKeys

We’re spotlighting a selection of companies that help make Massdrop the community it is today. From big names to lesser-knowns, these are the brands we can’t stop talking about at the Massdrop HQ.
About NovelKeys
The NovelKeys name was inspired by founder Mike Sickler’s wife. When checking out a set of novelty keycaps from SA Camping, Mrs. Sickler thought it’d be clever to call those particular keycaps "Novelkeys." Eventually, the joke stuck and became the name of the company. NovelKeys originally started with mechanical keyboard–related products made with 3D-printing techniques. Since then, the company has worked with Kaihua Kailh to design exclusive switches in different variations of weight/feedback to satisfy mech keys enthusiasts around the globe.

What do you think about NovelKeys?

As a long time MechKeys community member, I can definitely say NovelKeys is one of my favorite guys out there. Great products at great prices, and constant innovation.
Others are making products and switches that are on par (sometimes not even) with products Mike has, but are FAR more expensive. I've defaulted to NovelKeys switches for new builds for quite some time now, and don't see that changing anytime soon.

So I've recently discovered an issue with the novelkeys/Kailh box switches. It seems to center around the stem of the switch, which can be crooked despite correct placement of the switch. Is there a way to forward this information to someone that might be able to look into it during future production runs?

Thanks for the reply. I'll take some tomorrow morning and email them to you.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Mike, and am glad for his contributions to the community! His mats were a revelation, and the process of procuring them was open and honest.

Mike is an absolutely lovely human being. We hope he continues to remain functional for a long time to come.

This is the video that introduced me to Novelkeys:
And as soon as I watched it, I immediately ordered a bag of Kailh Box Navy switches from the Novelkeys website. Since that time, I've pre ordered the XDA Scrabble Board there (looking forward to getting that one!) and bought 3 more bags of various Novelkey Kailh switches here on Massdrop.
I don't personally know much about the man behind Novelkeys, but I appreciate the unique items he brings to the mechanical keyboard community and I quite like the little NovelKeys stickers he throws in with every order. :)
