It happened in steps for me really, I bought some earbuds to listen to music on the bus and never cared too much. Someone showed me other earbuds that were better for 15 dollars both sony junk earbuds in comparison today, they fell apart after a week. I bought some 10 dollar sony studio monitor headphones in 9th grade(about 8-9 years ago) they lasted me a while and sounded great for the money until they broke a year later. I searched for new headphones with requirements this time, they had to be over the ear and sound better then what I had. I bought Skullcandy Hesh headphones, the very first generation. Those broke after 3 months. I bought new ones which broke 2 months later(same headphones). I went on amazon with 40 dollars and found Sennheiser. The HD515 headphones changed me world view, I bought a set refurbished for 35 and change and they were hands down the best thing I ever heard from headphones, at a fraction of the cost I think they were like 80-90 for new ones at the time. I still have them. I started listening to everything I could to find something wrong and I did of course, they werent the end all be all. I grew up and got out of high school and got a job, bought my first set of 100+ dollar headphones, the first VModa LP headphones. They were great eventually the drivers died. Now I have more money and needed to replace those and bought the all might ATH-M50xBL Audiotechnica headphones which I love. I felt empty after a while with my M50x's and found myself missing the Sennheiser sound, new things had come out since my HD515s and bought the HD598 headphones, I actually love the beige and brown color scheme and the sound was... Ok. I was disappointed and confused. They sounded ok but without life. I started doing research but everyone only praised them. Recently because of massdrop I was sold on the idea of an amp, and searched high and low for an amp/dac combo and settled on just an amp, the Magni 2. The Magni 2 gave my headphones a kick that nothing else had driving them to new heights and I was sold. The headphones I say really made me appreciate audio were 15 dollar sony earbuds, 10 dollar sony studio monitors and 35 dollar Sennheiser's. I recently have started changing my intrest from headphones to speakers and currently looking for speakers and a turn table. I will have a set up that keeps me coming back for music. I love music and clean audio and that started from the way bottom.
