I hope you guys get the Granite Gear Crown2 in sometime. Either pack I think would do well here, but I'm more interested in the 38. It weighs just over 2 lbs, plus you can take out the frame for smaller loads and lose a bit of weight. Not sure on this pack, but having hip pockets that can fit most phones is pretty important to me. Otherwise, side water bottle pockets, a top loading main pocket and front mesh pocket are all I need. Oh, and an adjustable hip belt. It's also nice to be able to lash things to the outside. Obviously trekking poles, but also sleeping pads and whatnot. Pretty standard stuff.
On a side note, with any kind of backpack (looking more at day packs though) these days, I'm over the 1000D, super overbuilt, heavy, vacationing-in-Kabul packs. There's just no need for it. Most of us seem to be gear junkies that want to try out new stuff anyway. Give me 3-5 years and I'm good.
