Hi there
I have listened to and owned a few of the top end stuff like the qc 35ii, mdr 1000x, B&O h9 and the pxc550 for out and out value i would have to say the 1000x takes it for me the qc35 ii was good but not worth it for me I really liked the pxc550 and sound quality wise I did actually prefer it to the others but you can pick up the mdr1000x for pretty cheap these days so that would be my pick.

As a frequent air traveler, I highly endorse the Bose QC25. Since they aren't the latest model, the hype isn't there anymore, but the noise cancelling is still top notch - very much in the same tier as the newer QC35 and the Sony WH-1000XM2. And since your use case sounds like wired, you can come in way under budget if you don't want to spend on wireless functionality. Very comfortable as well for long flights or office use.
As an aside, I've had mine for a couple of years and just recently added a small wireless module. Hardly noticeable, and a nice add on. And I'm still in for much less than either of the newer wireless models.
I would prefer not to like Bose, so i could feel like a real connoisseur, but darned if I don't keep being positively surprised every time I try their stuff.

iampsi disagree . having had these and the sony wh1000xms cans. I can say the bose are comfy yes more so that the xm2 by sony. However the sound from sonys cans are superior have more features and had ldac bluetooth capability. Bang for buck heads down sony wh1000xms . i hate bose but thats my non bias opinion.

Bose QC spend the extra $50.
Someone else was asking about this recently. The only thing that comes to mind is Bose QC series

erickongThe Bose qc 20's have become a necessity for traveling in my case. They're small footprint and easy carryability make them ideal. They also have better noise canceling than a lot of ote headphones I've found in the same price range.
