WE NEED AN APP

more_vert
Why Massdrop didn't do an app yet. so we can check the stuff and the drops and polls and talk and basically everything? I mean come oooon!!! It's easier to access from an app... also the site on mobile devices needs a little re-calibration...
What's your opinion?

An app is simply expensive. And the cost will be added to everyone of us eventually.
As someone in tech industry, I certainly appreciate the job security aspect of a new app but the cost of development, continuing bug fixes and production support can be daunting. If the benefit of an app can justify the cost then this may be a good call. Otherwise a mobile web version of Massdrop is certainly good enough.

Funny that, I noticed this and have started creating a prototype for a university course! I found it horrible that I had to receive all of the drop updates through email, which was the main drive for it

I could do with a Massdrop app. For whatever reason I can never access the Massdrop site through the web browser on my phone.

I've yet to replicate your issue on my devices, still trying though. In the meantime feel free to test out the Firefox approach :)
Not just a slow response - I couldn't even access Massdrop on my phone, or a select few sites which use secure servers. I'm not sure if it's Chrome, it's just the pre-installed Android browser with the little blue world globe icon. Since I've realised it's not so much a Massdrop problem, but rather a problem with the Android browser that is affecting other sites too, Firefox is the way to go for me. Thanks everyone for your help with this.

I agree. Massdrop has a lot of potential to be more than just "somewhere to get cool stuff at a better price". It's the opposite of Amazon; a marketplace for everyone who share very little in common.
By presenting Massdrop's experience through a native and well designed app, Massdrop can stick to its users better, leverage off more consumer micro moments + motivations, and foster conversations among its communities of various hobbyists.
I'm glad to see you bring this up. Currently I'm working on a personal project to design an app for Massdrop. When I'm done with it (in a few days), I will share it here and hope you all can provide me with some feedback :)!

KizoveenHi everyone, it's been awhile. I'm back with an update! Took me awhile to finish the first steps to designing an app for Massdrop.

Here's a link to the full post... On my site: http://www.kevinyao.net/gallery/massdrop-mobile-app-design/ In Mech Keys' talks: https://www.massdrop.com/talk/918/massdrop-app-design
My design is focused on optimizing Massdrop's mobile navigation, structure, and connecting drops to how we communicate in Massdrop.
Moving on from this, I plan to integrate features such as Drop Calendar into this design, depending on the feedback I receive.
Please feel free to share your thoughts, I'm looking forward to learn more about you all :)

Definitely. A lot could be done from it as well, like drop calendar, package tracking from right in the app, Siri integration, and some more. Does anyone have other ideas for cool features for an app?

It doesn't necesarilly need to give you the exact date of a drop, you can use 'what's on massdrop next month' approach for example. But still, to have the exact date of a drop is a win for me. Anyways, it always nice to see the CEO heard for what users have to say :)

Hello,
first initial thought, why do you ask for opinions having decided to talk for all of us? "I would like to have an app" would have had some room for discussion/opinions.
To be serious, i don't need an app, but i'm an older guy who doesn't need all this social media shit, dis/likes, catvideos or youporn. Maybe my opinion shouldn't count that much, i do belong to an dying species :)
Looking at the poor discussion/web performance of MD 2.xxx right now i don't want to imagine an app being that buggy and not that much fun at all.
If this page should ever leave beta status, we might talk again about new projects.
Of course, all of this is just me and feel free to disagree and have a nice day!

Good morning,
please don't take my rant about social media to serious, i'm aware different times/generations, different tools, there will always be "older" folks being sceptical about "new" things. Natural way of life, and for me younger generations have to be sceptical about older peoples approach to life being the only way.
For me, i'm just being very sceptical about Facebook, Google ... and i don't believe in "We're not evil", it's not about making money or profit, it's about power and might to "rule" the world to their liking in the end of the day.
Should be enough, i could go on for hours, but that doesn't belong here.

Makamiyeah when I was interviewed by Massdrop I recommended a in general talk tab so that we would have a place for these discussions, and I agree with you that we don't need a app especially when the site works on your phone I hope that they focus their efforts on other things. I think people get way to offended now a days people just need to learn to take a different opinion.
