Thanks for letting us know RayF. Very much appreciated. This is really sad. I really felt a kinship to him. I've worked in the restaurant industry for over 32 years now. So when I read Kitchen Confidential. I knew he was the real deal. Only someone who worked in kitchens back in the day could ever tell that story.
It's really hard to imagine that he would commit suicide though. He had it all, even the pretty lady. He definitely had a dark side to him. That's for sure, but now I'm wondering if there wasn't something else going on. It was probably some form of mental issues. But he did seem to imbibe in alcohol a lot. Maybe it didn't end there? I realize it doesn't really matter in the end why. But I think there's always lessons to be learned in life. With everything.
So sad! He'll be missed greatly.

amb3cogParticularly unnerving in light of Kate Spade's recent passing. I suppose we'll never know the true "whys" of it all.

RayFYea. Just chatting with my 71 year old Mom about that. Like she said. Just goes to show that no one truly has it all. This is why I truly feel that the luckiest people in the world are those that have a big happy/healthy family that gets along, and is there for each other. Not those with lots of money. That just seems to corrupt all of that good stuff.
I've seen countless families tear apart after the old Mom, or Dad dies and leaves a lot of money. Including my own. When my great grandmother passed away (I was maybe 12 yrs old, or even younger). Leaving a decent amount of money, and a very nice house in Newport RI (my hometown). My father pulled me aside and warned me about what was to come. I thought he was crazy. These nice people would never act that way I thought. Lol
Needless to say. Pops was dead on with his predictions. As he always was.
People ask how rich/famous people can kill themselves when they so much to live for. I believe part of the reason they kill themselves is actually because of the money. When you have all that fame and fortune. You can't know for sure if anyone is truly there for you. Or for your money. For this reason. I really have no desire to have lots of money. Unless it's in a way that people don't know I have it. Read some horror stories about people that have won the lottery if you don't believe me. People will literally come after you with a vengeance to get their hands on it. I'm all set with that myself. No thank you.
Have a great night Ray. Andy B

amb3cogUnfortunately mental illness doesn't care how much money or what sort of partner you have. Even if you get help, have everything you could ever want and have never done anything wrong in your life (drugs, alcohol etc) it's still possible to be afflicted by mental illness and feel suicidal. Depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, PTSD are all problems that can drive someone to suicide even with all the help and love in the world. It's a terrible burden to bear. Robin Williams had bipolar disorder.

BlueCrownedI completely understand, unfortunately. It runs in my family, and it affects me also. Thankfully not too bad lately. But it still prevents myself, and others from living a more normal life. Like I mentioned. He had a dark side, and liked the hooch a lot (self medicating?). Those are some very obvious signs there's something going on. I truly believe the fame, and fortune just makes it all worse. I mean who's going to stop to try to get help when it may ruin your career? Just as a for instance. He was a truly a great man. Such a damn shame. Thank you for the reply, and have a great night.

amb3cogFor some reason, deep down, I felt he smoked and drank so much to numb some type of pain, fighting hi own demons. Sometimes you would be able to see it on his face when he was holding a cigarette.

satsehYup. They call that self medicating. Most addicts are addicts because of other reasons. Addiction is a mental disease, and it's usually a symptom of another mental issue. It's a short escape from the pain. Unfortunately it just makes it worse in the long run though.
Looks like they're running his show on CNN BTW if anyone is interested. Someone in my house had it on when I got home just a little while ago. Honestly it seemed really strange hearing his voice when I walked in. Made me very sad. It was the Vietnam episode with Obama. It seemed like a really good episode actually. But I'm not much of a TV guy anymore. And I'll probably just feel sad anyway.
