Drop Changes Not For Me

more_vert
I have been a longtime Massdrop / Drop customer with well over a hundred transactions. That said, almost all of my interest was in the product categories that Drop has chosen to walk away from. It just astounds me that with Drop's array of highly regarded venture partners, they'd make such an awful set of changes. How many mechanical keyboards does one need? Compare to the number of knives and watches one could use. Even if I assume that there were analytics that told them the future was in Mechanical Keys, in today's superheated retail environment - you couldn't find a way to split off or sell the other businesses? It wasn't worth even forking your site to try? As an entrepreneur myself, just walking away from a significant portion of your customers is really hard to understand.

I used to buy RC car parts from Massdrop, and watches. Both are no longer offered. Wardrobe stuff too! Now I only look to see, they are truly out of my interests. Farewell Drop!

I joined (Mass)Drop for fountain pens, inks and paper. I miss those.

As someone who initially joined for their EDC and outdoor gear, this is really disappointing. I used to get other fun things like dice and knives, too. I hate looking through the old items like biking gear and knowing they feel better only selling 3 different items max.

huh you've changed my tone a little bit. I thought drop was originally a keyboard site, and they were making useless ventures into outdoor gear. but it kind of disappoints me to know that massdrop was an outdoor gear company that randomly switched to mechanical keyboards??? that's really random and is pretty obviously chasing after a profitable industry. it's like patagonia deciding they're going to make clothing AND CARS. very disappointing drop.

Agreed, I don't understand this at all and it doesn't make sense that this model wouldn't continue to work for those other product categories. Some of my favorite everyday items (socks, meat thermometer, hyperchiller, etc.) have come from a massdrop, where I've waited months to receive the product. Pretty bummed that the reason I was on this site to begin with is now just gone in favor of only headphones/audio and mech keys.

Same here. Maybe not over 100 hundred transactions, but as a European customer, where I have to pay almost always the extra customs for my purchases, I had my shares in *massdropping*. After awhile, I was here to look for a new watch box and glimpse in the knives and watches. Wow, they were gone fast. What did just happen here?

I'm seeing the same. I presume outdoor gear is no longer an option here? I haven't seen any for a bit
