What's your take on the new Vostok Europe over the Russian made Vostoks of yesterday?

bigred25929 I've only had experience with this one; never owned or seen one from Mother Russia in the flesh. I believe @Paxman has a couple and so far as I know, thinks well of them. Online elsewhere, they seem to have a small but loyal following. These Vostok Europes are actually decent watches with interesting features--and some pretty dramatic styling (my Limousine is about as pedestrian as they get). Bought it here too--back when MD could sell more than two things at a time.

RayFThe real Vostoks are pretty unrefined in their finishing. They are truly Russian watches. They work just fine just don't expect chronometer like time keeping and realize they do have a finite life span. I initially kind of dug the VE's until they started putting Asian movements in them. A bit counter intuitive to have a Russian sounding name for a watch company based in Lithuania I think and now with Asian movements.

Paxman Well that’s not so bad; a lot of my watches have Asian movements. Sounds like the Russian Vostoks could have benefited from a little Asian engineering?

RayFOh I have nothing against Asian movements. I'm not sure they belong in a "Russian" watch. There are so many various Russian movements both automatic and hand winding so why not put one in your watch branded Vostok Europe. I mean they can't possibly cost more than an NH35, right?
