Would this be a good upgrade from a Sony MDR-7506? I do have a Dac/Amp, which is the Creative Sound Blaster X3 which I think should be enough for the HD 6XX.

Yes, big upgrade from the Sony MDR-7506. Certainly more "musical" to my ears. Can't comment on the Sound Blaster X3 since I'm not familiar with it, but I would guess that it would be fine.

kaudThanks! Are they similar in being quite neutral-sounding? I do more visual work but occasionally dabble in sound design or production.

SciberraslukeThe Sony's are more neutral sounding to me, which I guess is why people who do audio production and studio work use them a lot. However, their sound can be fatiguing after a while to me. The Sennheiser's definitely have a different signature, warmer, more relaxing, better for just relaxing and enjoying your favorite music. You could use the Sony's when you do production and use the Sennheiser's for everything else.
