DAC/Amp Combo for MASSDROP X SENNHEISER HD 6XX HEADPHONES

more_vert
Hi! I am seriously considering buying the HD 6xx's, and I'm very new to advanced audio. I was wondering what is the best DAC/Amp combo for these headphones around $100. Thanks in advance! Edit: Would FiiO E10K work? Just buy a Schiit Fulla 4 and call it good for that budget.

That's a pretty tight budget for both DAC and amp but you could do something like one of these, which are pretty close to your budget: https://drop.com/buy/xduoo-xp-2-pro-bluetooth-dac-amp or https://drop.com/buy/drop-o2-sdac-dac-amp But like the other response said, you don't technically need either, but they would certainly output better quality audio than the headphone jack on your phone or iPod or laptop.

Of course. Now stop taking advice from drop members; they’re generally only a week’s worth of comments ahead of you.

I'm not an audiophile but I don't think the HD6xx needs a DAC or amplifier. I enjoy quality sound and used the laptop audio output during the first year of owning my HD6xx headphones. Now, I use an old AV receiver (JVC RX-618R) between my laptop output and headphones to switch between audio sources more easily. Modern audio chips provide ample power and quality sound. If you can reach the sound volumes you seek without turning the knob to max volume, you will probably be fine in regards to sound quality. I'm sure buying a dedicated DAC and amplifier will give you better sound quality but I believe it's barely noticeable. If you jump from your average earbuds or cheap headphone to the HD6xx, you'll be blown away by the sound quality regardless of the power source. So I recommend that you buy the HD6xx without a DAC/amplifier and listen to them with your current setup (if any). If you seek even better audio quality, you can always buy a DAC/amplifier later on.
