Canadian Massdrop.ca
more_vert
I am tired of import taxes every time I participate in a drop. I don't mind paying the actual price of products in USD even with the Canadian dollar doing so bad. I was wondering if there is any chance of a Canadian branch ever opening up so drops can be mailed quicker and import taxes wouldn't apply. I know there are a lot of Canadian customers who would appreciate this as well. Something similar to what Amazon.ca does. *BTW Check out The Next Best Thing Studio on youtube. I just got HD6xxs ordered a couple days ago and they appear to be shipping with DHL. I'm gonna guess I'll get rekt and pay tons of duty based on the comments here which will totally void the whole point of getting them for $175 USD with the BF promo.. lel. I'll report back with how bad the damage is.

if you got the same deal as me then $41 is about right; (175 USD * 1.33) * 1.13 [hst] + 10 [border handling fee]. This is about what I expected to pay. You can't get really bypass HST or the "handling fee". Big sellers (amazon) will lob it into the bill whereas I'm sure massdrop can't be bothered.

Oh, probably should clarify the $41: CAD principle cost = 175 USD * 1.33 (USDCAD rate at time of purchase) = 232.75 CAD 232.75 * 0.13 + 10 = 40.25 There may have been some discrepancy for the forex rate at the time of delivery vs. purchase so they mark the tax according to the rate at delivery iirc.

I ended up paying 44$ in customs plus the 297 $ give or take a few cents, the original price is a steal, but the 44 customs is quite a lot, I agree it would be handy for Canadian s to have massdrop be here!

Just order your goods to a U.S address (free shipping) like MYus($7/month) or crossborderpickups (ships to Toronto warehouse then you can pickup , or ship throughout canada) you already save $15+ USD, you declare the value of the package and have it shipped to you for $10-20 and pay taxes on the value you declared

Agree. They charge Canada GST plus exchange rate of 25 cents on the dollar plus delivery and insane duty if it is UPS.

This isn’t just a Massdrop problem. Schiit, JDS Labs and Mayflower all have over priced/slow shipping to Canada. I bought a Emotiva A-100 which weighs 16 pounds and they shipped it for free. Massdrop, Schitt, JDS Labs and Mayflower all charge more for a tiny O2 sized amp and have equal or slower shipping times. It’s obvious Emotiva has an experienced logistics manager and the other guys don’t.

Don't disagree that the cost is a bit high relative to what it could be. Massdrop also isn't a large operation, still a relatively small outfit by most metrics. Would also place some blame on our less than adequate POTUS. His understanding of international trade is laughable. Yeah that was just an opportunity to dig on that idiot.

Eastwood Guitars, a supposedly still-Canadian company according to CEO Mike Robinson, ships from the US in US dollars plus outragesous shipping charges. They have distribution centers in the US and the UK. Apparently only 5% of their sales are in Canada. Maybe if they didn't f*ck us up the a** that percentage would be higher. If they only sell 5% in Canada then they could afford to sell at par. I'm sick of Canadian businesses using the "we need to sell to the US to survive argument". You don't have to screw your Canadian customers to sell to US customers. Candian in spirit but American in reality.

I paid only some $44 cad additional to Canada Post for GST 13% and a handling fee, which I assume I would also pay (not the handling fee) if i ordered the HD 650 through Amazon at a significantly higher price. I did have some problems with the the DHL/Canada Post delivery and tracking probably because of the labour dispute? Overall, very happy with the purchase.
