· What do you look for in a closed-back headphone? Sound quality - Present bass that doesn't bleed into mids, no muddy bass-mid transition; Forward mids, prefer treble to be energetic and just short of harsh, but rolled off is okay with me too
Comfort - Clamping pressure not too great, headband distributes weight evenly, light weight also preferred, but not required if headband designed properly. The only reason I'd wear a closed back over an IEM is that it's more comfortable wear or it sounds THAT much better, but the latter is rarer than I expected.
Efficiency - Probably using closed backs while out, so running from DAP or laptop without additional amp would preferable, or at most, needs something small like ifi nano BL
· What kind of strap/headband do you prefer? I've enjoyed the head band on Fostex's TH lineup, Audeze, Sennheiser 6xx, and Hifiman. Found the ATH-M40x, PSB m4u8, and Senn HD25 1 ii to clamp a bit too hard. One of my favorite headbands came from the ATH-r70x, now that I think about it...
· Are there particular brands you like? Specifically in the closed back market? Audio Technica (m40x), Fostex (THx00, th900)/ EMU Teak, and enjoyed the small amount of listening I did on the Aeon Flow Closed. The PSB M4U8's sound incredible, too, but I don't often need the convenience of a BT headphone. I've got the Audeze Mobius incoming, so we'll see how that goes. The 1More triple drivers are alright too, but the treble just sounds the tiniest bit artificial to my ears, probably because it comes from a different driver.
