Ignoring sound all together, because well of course we want the best we can get for the price point there. In a closed back(circumaural) pair of headphones, comfort is probably the most important to me, and maybe sound isolation being second to that. For comfort, my ears better fit in them and not be pressed on like with ATH-M50's, I prefer cloth pads, even though they soak up sweat if it's a hot day, they also tend to prevent that from being as much of a problem. For headband/strap either cloth padding or a nice soft leather, not pleather because in my experience it just doesn't hold up. For such parts I also love it when you are capable of replacing them. This is where my relationship with the DT-770's is love hate, from heavy use the pads can last you a year maybe 2 at absolute tops, and they're not cheap to replace. Also the DT-770's have some weak plastic around the sizing area that always cracks slowly in the same spot, I ended up getting a 3d printed pair of thicker replacements after my first replacements cracked within a year.
If I was going for portability(supra aural), folding nicely is a big deal, I would probably swap to leather/pleather for pads just for the added isolation, and because they aren't going to be on for as long of periods. Also there's the comfort issue being completely different, they can't have a death clamp that destroys your earlobes, but still need to stay on your head.
