Don't know if it'd be possible since they're no longer in business, but it'd be cool if Massdrop could collaborate with Oppo to bring back the PM-3 with updated earpads/headband. Comfortable, great sound, relatively portable, relatively easy to drive. It seems like a shame that a company that was so much on top of their game would close its doors. A collaboration like this might make sense if it's not too late.

Oppo is a HUGE and successful company. I do not know the reasons why they closed their digital division (headphones, and other stuff, but primarily their high quality BluRay disc players), but I also lament the loss.
And despite the PM-3 having a fair amount of Pad surface area on my ears (I owned one and so did my wife at one point), if I got the angle just right it had some of the best comfort of any closed headphone meant for on-the-go use I’ve owned. I don’t recall the headband being an issue for me, just the eventual heat build-up that seems inevitable with any earpad. Speaking more generally about ear pads, I haven’t really observed a company “solve” heat build-up yet, though fenestrations or hybrid pads have made a nice big advancement, and Dekoni has posted hints on social media about a variant of their upcoming Sony pads that has some new kind of way to deal with heat.
The one time I had enough money, I had to decide between buying the PM-2 and a Sennheiser HD 800, and I chose the HD 800. I definitely do not regret the decision, but ideally I wish I could have both, and I worry that they will all be gone by the time our household has more income than just enough to pay our expenses.

Here's my understanding of Oppo Digital closing, as I posted on Head-Fi: As to why Oppo Digital is no more... Your guess is probably as good as mine, but my guess is that: 1) Oppo Digital (manufacturers of DVD/Blu-Ray Players and personal audio equipment), Oppo Electronics (manufacturers of cell phones and other personal electronics), OnePlus, and Vivo were all owned by parent company BBK Electronics 2) a. In Q1 2017, BBK Electronics was number 2 cell phone provider in the world; Samsung was number 1; b. Oppo Digital makes the best Blu-Ray players on the market, as well as highly acclaimed headphones and headphone amps, but it only focuses on those products, which is not very profitable; 3) BBK Electronics really wants to be number 1 in cell phones; 4) BBK subsequently cuts chaff, which is-- unfortunately for audiophiles and videophiles -- Oppo Digital. I'd further this theory by wondering if the Chinese market is largely driven by expansion/growth-- taking Fiio, HiFiMan and a recent proliferation of "ChiFi" as examples. Fiio and HiFiMan both seem to introduce way more products annually than any of their non-Chinese competitors. Oppo Digital did not fit this model at all, focusing on one or two best-in-class products rather than ranging from entry level to TOTL. Of course, all of this is completely based on amateurish observations and postulation. If an expert comes along and tells me I'm wrong, I'm not going to argue.
I'd agree about the comfort of the PM-3. I was referring to other users that have had the padding disintegrate. I think it happens mostly in hot, humid climates. Thankfully, this hasn't happened to my pair.

Agreed. Great sound at a good price point. My chief criticism would be changing the design so the ear pads could more easily be replaced. Mine are really getting ratty and I dread attempting the approach I'm seeing described on YouTube.

KEF LS50 Drop....Anyone else drooling at this prospect?
For those of you who may not know, the KEF LS50's are one of the best rated desktop/monitor speaker around. They have received constant praise from sites like "what hi-fi", cnet, sound and vision, stereophile magazine, etc etc. almost always achieving a near perfect score and receiving multiple 2016 product of the year awards. They are normally $1500 for a pair, and come in some pretty awesome color schemes like black and gold, titanium grey and blue, white and blue, and red and gray I believe. I've been saving up for these for a few weeks now, and I would love to see them offered in a drop! Below are some links about these gorgeous works of art. http://www.stereophile.com/content/kef-ls50-anniversary-model-loudspeaker http://www.whathifi.com/kef/ls50/review http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2016/12/kef-ls50-wireless-review-dars-product-of-the-year-2016/ https://www.avforums.com/review/kef-ls50-speaker-review.11965 [image] [image] [image] [image]

Massdrop Version of Sennheiser HD 25?
Has anyone at Massdrop thought about creating a collaborative version of the Sennheiser HD 25? Team members could confect a dark blue plastic model, or finesse and fine-tune the HD 25 Aluminum (not the Amperior; I'm talking about the proper HD 25 with fully detachable cable, etc.). Comparison review king |Joker| of TheHeadphoneList gives the HD 25-1 his highest rating (http://theheadphonelist.com/headphone-review/sennheiser-hd25-1-ii/). I once spoke with him about his background as an audio engineer because I'm an old-time studio musician who has found that the HD 25-1 might be the only DJ headphone that can be used in studios for basics and overdubs. |Joker| seemed to agree. I'm always recommending versions of the HD 25 to friends. It would be nice if I could bring those friends to Massdrop on the strength of a special edition with a reasonable price.

Canadian Massdrop.ca
I am tired of import taxes every time I participate in a drop. I don't mind paying the actual price of products in USD even with the Canadian dollar doing so bad. I was wondering if there is any chance of a Canadian branch ever opening up so drops can be mailed quicker and import taxes wouldn't apply. I know there are a lot of Canadian customers who would appreciate this as well. Something similar to what Amazon.ca does. *BTW Check out The Next Best Thing Studio on youtube. Do me a favor and support a fellow Canadian ;)* http://Youtube.com/nextbestthingstudio

THX AAA Speaker Amp?
The THX AAA 789 headphone amp seems to be a big success thus far, but has there been any thought about developing a speaker amp using the same technology for Massdrop? Benchmark has the AHB2 that uses the THX AAA tech in a speaker amp, and it’s received rave reviews, but it’s pretty dang expensive. Any chance on a Massdrop collaboration or design that could offer that kind of performance for a more wallet-friendly price?

Recommendations for my first setup
I'm going to put together my first setup in the next couple weeks. I'm looking for suggestions on all components since I really don't know anything. I'd like to buy a DAC/Amp combo, but I'm open to separate units as well. I'll need it to run headphones, yet to be purchased, as well as small desktop monitors since my PC will be my primary source. Suggestions for all components will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
