Lack of interest in SA?

more_vert
Is it just me or is there a really obnoxiously low number of SA profile drops on here? I don't know what the deal is, they are like the perfect keycap, CENTERED LEGENDS, beautiful sculpting, double-shot, incredible color schemes, absolute pure aesthetic. Do you guys just not like them? Or are the too expensive? I would love to see more of these set available. I've been waiting for so long to see SA, and it's so rare. What's the deal kiddos?

The problem with SA is that the waiting time for getting it done is huge, so Massdrop has to balance different profiles in order to make it tolerable. That's why, unfortunately, we can't have a huge SA GB each month.

If you think there is a lack of interest in SA imagine what us G20 guys feel like.

Well massdrop usually has a lot of problems with SA sets they are usually created by onemail person then ran through signature plastics which isn't the best when there is 4000 orders. So it's not that massdrop doesn't want to its that it's very hard to do so.

I really don't like SA, I have 2 sets of Jukebox SA round 1 (1 set for my ANSI k - boards and 1 set set with the international kit for my ISO/Nordic keybords) because I like the cars (not chevy) and the music from the 50's. I'm more a big fan of DSA and Cherry.

'Obnoxiously low'?? This year alone we had Pulse, Godspeed, Jukebox, Amazing Chocolatier, Nantucket Selectric, Dasher/Dancer, 1965, SA Camping, SA Chronicler, Grand Budapest, not to mention the long-running Deskthority Round 6, with many many more in the pipeline, the market is so saturated with SA buys that the waiting time for sets are now > 6 months to get a set, just because SP production schedule is so freaking busy. I would much rather get more GMK drops (and to be fair, we've been seeing an embarassingly huge number of GMK runs being lined up too), it's a good time to be a mechanical keyboard enthusiasts.
Maybe your problem is that you only shop from Massdrop, and there's a limit to how often Massdrop can host SA buys, since we all all limited by the main bottleneck that is SP's limited production capability.

Dasher / Dancer look pretty good, but I'm holding out for something a little different. I got in on the last run of 1976, but I'm really hoping for another unusual set that calls to me that isn't all row 3. I have a green switched WASD waiting for new SA caps.

There is an SA drop like every couple of months. Godspeed dropped in September. Amazing Chocolatier dropped just before that. Dasher is dropping Monday... Plus drops that are happening on other sites. It isn't a lack of interest. It's manufacturing capacity. Signature Plastics' SA queue is already filled out to mid/late 2017.

elFickYeah. I just want to see a more even ratio of SA to GMK style stuff. Is Signature Plastics the only manufacturer of SA stuff?

kuhnsrcUnfortunately, yes, just SP. They are also the only ones that do DSA. There is one other profile similar to SA, Devlin K Series, but AFAIK only one set has been run so far, Rad-Away, http://www.mechsupply.co.uk/product/ukkeycaps-k-series-rad-away-planck-keyset .

What's the downside on the typing experience with SA caps? I think they are beautiful but I've got no experience using them, beyond early days on actual terminals and maybe, Selectric typewriters.

KalliumIt's hard to say... really personal preference. I find it easier to type on OEM/Cherry than SA or DSA. There are people that feel exactly the opposite. :)

KalliumThey're a lot taller than other keycaps, so they can feel a little wobblier and don't depress as easily with an off-center press. Both are more noticeable on 1.5x/2x width caps.
Otherwise, I don't feel much of a difference between the SA and OEM profiles. The only profile I really dislike is DSA.

The two of us seem to have a different version of MD, for me it's more, oh no, another SA one, i want more (GMK) Cherry profile.
Of course, i'm sort of kidding you, SA for me and many others i know is very polarizing, hate or love, not much inbetween.
Depending on preference and taste our points of view and recognition of given drops seems to be biased and not neutral :)

Well, honestly, i don't know, but i guess not really. Otherwise, my collection must be in the hundreds by now.
My fascination for mks, mice, trackballs started around 30 years ago. No geekhack, reddit, deskthority ... given. I just felt some kind of being weired, but didn't thought about that much. A lot of stuff came and go, it is still breaking my heart, being responsible for hardware for a midsized company many years ago, how many nice stuff i've "thrown away", given to recycling.
I'm a fan of Cherry and DSA, even though SA seems to stand out in regards of pleasing my eyes. But i don't like it that much for typing, the only SA one left is Jukebox and i'll keep it for the simple reason, the color setup, overall style makes me smile and positive :)
Otherwise i'm open minded, the keycaps have to please me, may it be the classic simple elegant Granite or wonderfull Carbon ... .
