5XX Left Ear Cup Stopped Working... How to diagnose/repair?

more_vert
I have a 5xx headphone and was listening to music when suddenly the left side cut out. I tried to swap the cable and used another device to confirm it was the left side that had some issue. All configurations had no noise in the left ear. To my knowledge, this was not due to dropping the headphones or some other damage (again, to my knowledge as they may have been dropped before and the previous damage just now caused some fault). I am not familiar with basic repairs or troubleshooting with headphones, especially with something as fragile as planars. I was wondering if anyone has advice for how to check for what is actually wrong with the headphone. I would prefer to diagnose and repair any simple issues, but from a visual inspection I did not see any broken magnets or really any difference from the other side.  I can open them up to get a better look at the internals, but I want to first confirm that there are no more basic checks or tests that I can do to diagnose the issue. Further, I also want to know if there is anything I should know before attempting to open the headphone up. I plan to follow video guides and be very gentle/not force anything while avoiding touching anywhere near the diaphragm or magnets and stick to the exterior as much as possible. These are currently my headphones of choice and I want to get them working again as soon as possible. Thanks and I appreciate any and all help!

I would check with customer service, if the cans are under warranty.

jaxtraumaOk, do you know if I go through drop or Hifiman? I was hoping to find some common issue with them that could be resolved rather than getting a replacement if possible (save everyone the money and hassle) but I am not sure how likely that will be :/

FastFink I'd go through Drop first and see what they have to say.
