I am somewhat new to the world of audio, but have always cared about having good sounding music and media. I am looking for a set of open back headphones primarily for gaming (first person shooters) but also want to be able to listen to music. I listen to a lot of styles from metal to jazz; so I’m looking for a well rounded sound. I don’t listen to hip-hip or electronic music much, so bass isn’t a huge concern for me. I have an old amp/receiver (STR-DH100) and use the 1/4” headphone jack. The amp then plugs into my computer.
So my question is...
What should I be looking at? I’m around the $200 price range but have wiggle room. I want a removable cable, open back, and comfort is important. I have ATH-m40’s and they kill my ears after long gaming seasons. So far the 6XX and 58X Jubilee look appealing. Also seen some people recommend the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO Studio (but it lacks a removable cable) as well as the AKG 7XX.
Any input would be incredibly helpful. Thanks in...
I am looking forward to buying a new DAC/AMP for less then 600. So far my options are the shiit jotunheim multibit or either the Monolith by Monoprice Desktop Headphone Amplifier and DAC with THX AAA Technology (Dual AKM 4493 DACs & Dual AAA-788 Modules) which I would have to wait as it still has not been released. Thing is I have searched online and people say that the jotunheim for its price point is good as an AMP because it can obviously have alot of power but when it comes to the DAC I was told is "acceptable" but it would be better to get a different DAC. If so, what DAC would best be paired with the jotunheim?
I have been noticeing some posts on the new JDS Labs Atom it looks very compelling to me. I was just about to get myself the MD O2 becouse I got $20 in credit, but then I saw this reveiw
Is the Objective 2 still worth it?
Hello all, first post! I have been trying to scratch that "perfect sounding" headphone itch since the early 80's, when I was in high school and I got my first pair of Radio Shack Optimus 25, and realized headphones could actually have some bass, and they didn't all need to sound so danged tinny. So, I have been doing this for a long time, since before Audiophile was a word, my wife has even accepted that my search for the perfect sounding personal audio will likely be a life long search for me, even going so far as to contribute a few pairs to my collection. Trust me, it is a bug that some of us will never shake. I have had countless headphones over the years, including some of my current batch are the Denon AH-D2000 and AH-D7000 (have both been sent off to Mark Lawton, who currently has the 7000s putting a new cable on them, could not recommend Mark's work more), Shure SE846, Fiio FH7 (my current favorite IEM of all time, and I have had countless), to name just a few, and numerous...
My gripes with Audio science review as a Objectivist
Ever since i found that community way back as a place to talk about stuff. It's gotta be the most unscientific community i ever had the decency to post on. Disagree with what the place deems as facts nope you're just a annoying person who needs to shut up.
I highly hate how they try to be objective on a subject that doesn't work like headphones. Since they think a high THD and FR is the only way gauge how its sounds.
Is it possible to plug your 2 pin connectors into your IEMs backwards?
Hey guys, another newbie question here, is it possible to plug your 2 pin connectors to your IEM's backwards? Every other set of IEMs, when I put the connector in, the L and R are on the outside ... this particular one is towards my ear. Would I hear a difference if I reversed the pins? I am thinking I would... Thanks in advance !
1. I wanted to order HD 6XX and can't find any post regarding shipment to Saudi Arabia formerly by Drop. Has anyone got their Drop product?
2. Getting a Fiio K5 Pro for HD6XX, will it be enough to drive it?
