Glad I'm Not the Only One

Where are the knives? I've been a memeber since back in the day of the Ferrum Forge Falcon collaboration, but I hadn't been to the Drop site in a while because I hadn't had the disposable income to be buying knives like I used to. Now I have a little money to burn and stopped by to check out what new knives might be on the way, and find there's nothing but colored computer keys and headphones at prices that I could get a custom knife (or two) for. Which is fine for people who are into those things, but just about the only purchases I made from (Mass)Drop were knives, so no knives = no interest to me. I hope this is just a temporary state of affairs, because despite the occasional disappointment and/or delay (hello Perpetua!), overall, the knives Drop produced were pretty damn great, and on occasion, really damn great. They were designed by some of best custom makers in the world, and built by top-notch OEMs; The Drop label is on the second manual knife made by Pro-Tech, and the first (and to date, only) one with CPM 20CV blade steel; all of them have held their value, and a few of them have gone up significantly--if you can find them. Good luck getting your hands on a Prism or SG2 Delica these days. In short, from a customer perspective at least, Drop knives seemed like a great success. I know there were sometimes problems getting them out on time, but only once was I less than completely satisfied with the product that ultimately arrived (again, hello Perpetua!), and even then it wasn't so bad that I returned it, I just didn't expect to have to center my own blade on a knife made by Millit. I suppose business decisions always come down to the question of profit, but profits are driven by demand, and clearly the demand for these sorts of knives still exists. I sincerely hope Drop hasn't given up on them forever. As it stands right now, there's nothing on this site that I have any interest in buying.

Also, here's a link to the original "announcement" (I use that term loosely, as it was just a community post that most people didn't even see until after they went searching to find where the knives went) https://drop.com/talk/75874/the-future-of-the-edc-and-outdoor-communities?utm_source=linkshare&referer=94FC7J

Hey man,I just copy-paste this answer to everyone asking the same question. Sorry to say but Drop just decided in mid-March 2021 that it's going to be all about headphones and keyboards. Bye to all the really well-designed EDC, knives, watch, and other collabs that are sold out; I'm guessing no new products too. Whatever is on Drop's Amazon is all we'll ever get now (no Drop watch collabs tho 🙁 ) A Drop moderator said: Currently, only Drops existing inventory is available. As we approach Q2-Q3 we will be receiving and re-stocking a number of popular Drop Outdoor and EDC products on Amazon. Long-term, our goal is to keep consistent and stock of these products. Sadly, a number of their products are sold out on Amazon and they don't reply to queries about restocks. Here's a link to Drop's knives page on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/45BD0840-4602-4580-8B24-142C83278F05?ingress=0&visitId=bd055b64-2e08-4f26-8c15-c15c7692c6ea&lp_slot=auto-sparkle-hsa-tetris&store_ref=SB_A05827331ZW63XJFGRCFI&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_lsi4d_logo Best of luck!

Don't forget to mention, prices on their old stock were jacked up by about 40% last I looked, if memory serves. The whole thing is a damn shame, they had something good going, then they completely dropped the ball. No pun even. I only came back on to check details of a previous purchase (couldn't remember the name of a pen I bought, to look for refills). That's about the only use I get from this account anymore.

I hear that. DROP's EDC/Outdoor community is just another casualty of bad business decisions.
