I absolutely love my Varmillo VA87MR with Gateron Browns, so much so that I have one at home and one at work. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/varmilo-va87mr
Here it is sporting a custom set I put together with keys from several different kits from the last Massdrop x Matt3o /dev/tty MT3 drop (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-matt3o-devtty-custom-keycap-set):

Just got two of Massdrop CTRL boards, one with Halo Trues and one with Halo Clears. Liking the clears better so far, but prefer the Gateron Browns to both. These things have HOT SWAPPABLE SWITCHES, so if you don't like the ones you get originally, you can just swap them out! I couldn't find another TKL keyboard with this feature on the market. See https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-ctrl-mechanical-keyboard.
Either of these seem like they'd make good starting boards, but a Unicomp recreation of the old IBM boards would be a good place to start too, and you could get started without having to wait for a drop. You can find them @ http://www.pckeyboard.com/page/category/UKBD.
Only thing I'd advise being aware of is that some switches can be *really* loud, so much so that they'd bother people sitting around you in an office setting. So stay on the quieter side if that's your use case.

I recommend getting a switch tester before going all in on a keyboard. That way you can find a switch you like. Most boards you can find on the market will have gateron or cherry switches. Manufacturers won't have the more exotic switches.
