I reeeeeally liked the Oppo PM-2 I got to borrow on a tour, and I would probably own a pair by now if I could've caught one of the refurbs. I'm not even complaining about treble or anything, just my poverty. Very comfortable with the velour pads too!
The HD700 (stock) did some things well but I really couldn't justify keeping them for even the Black Friday $325 refurbished price when I still had my K712 which had less bass distortion, so I sold them after giving them a go for a good month. If the HD700 couldn't earn it's keep at $325... although lately I've been wondering if a cable upgrade would actually have solved my bass issues and made them a keeper. I bet a cable upgrade and some mod massaging could really do wonders for the HD700.
I have a pair of Nighthawks and they're absolutely amazing. Compared them side by side with the Sen 700's, and I honestly perfected the warmer, bassier signature of the Nighthawks.
K812 woud be better to be modified into dual entry due to its fragile design
Oppo pm1 would be better to be change the internal wire of driver into core silver and have a pair earpad for better treble
The suggested xx modifications for above headphones are not attractive enough
Would the Oppos be PM-3s or open backs? (1 or 2)
I think these would be really good sounding headphones with the right tweeks made. They have some really good things going for them.
