Just added the Peak Designs travel pack. Great option for a 1-pack solution.
I live in Phoenix where it's currently hitting anywhere from 110-118f every day outside, and carry a MBP along with a netbook and work gear with me nearly everywhere I go. I'm a huge osprey fan (6 of their packs for various outdoor activities) however they seem to have just too much going on that make it very complicated for daily usage.
Recently I picked up a DaKine Network II and it is AWESOME. It has back and strap ventilation and seems to work well. You cannot remove the laptop with out un-shouldering the bag, which is good and bad. The bad is that is leaves a somewhat awkward flap open when you try to lay it down unless you zip it back up first.
I suggest that we find a pack that is reasonable with ventilation - if anyone has ideas then post it.
Otherwise I really do highly recommend the DaKine Network II
