My Baratza Encore has been grinding away, day after day, couple pounds a week,)or more, I do the night shift gig at a University ER), and this one has yet to break down in any way. I don't even clean it as religiously as I should.
The grind is consistent and the thing doesn't eat up my entire counter-top.
Shoot, it's not even hideously noisy....which is a bonus for that firstthinginthemorningblearyandmuzzystartoftheday.
I've had grinders that I wanted to hatchet dead because of that harrowing racket!
I dunno about the other four but for what it's worth I have the Baratza Encore and I've had to replace several parts in less than three years. Granted the parts are available which is a big plus but I feel that for the price ($150 CDN plus tax) I shouldn't have parts breaking in, at the very least, the first five years. Before someone says I must be putting low quality coffee beans through it with bits of stone and such the answer is no - high quality, nothing but coffee beans.

I think it is quite normal for an entry level grinder. Above average probably. To find a more durable grinder you should be looking at the Vario/sette lines but that will be at least double the price of the one you have, and even those are not particulary known for their durability. I am a fan of Ceado but you need the countertop footprint and clearance, and the cost goes up quickly as well. Have had my E37S for 2 years now, grinding at least 2 pounds weekly, and nothing has failed yet.

I’m following as I’m interested in seeing if a drop on this item can be done.
Been looking for a burr grinder for a while, and the Barata Encore is the goto for a number of coffee industry friends. I'd love to see what this community could manage for a drop on something like this.
