would a free sync monitor still work with an Nvidia chipset GPU? or does it have to be an AMD

Sherman2396Freesync will only work with AMD GPUs. It is possible that Nvidia will add Freesync support to their drivers in the future but it is unlikely.

Sherman2396Yes, Free-sync monitors work with Nvidia video cards. You just don't get the variable refresh rate(automatically matches the FPS to the refresh rate of the monitor) benefit in games. Gives you smoother game play and should eliminate tearing.
