That was the winner in the America’s Test Kitchen competition—many of the others in this poll ended up on the Not Recommended list—always do your research before buying!
I noticed that the Bamix immersion blender was not on the list and since it is a bit of a classic I think that it belongs here. I've been using this for a few years now and it is the first immersion mixer that I would recommend to others. Notice that instead of a knife shroud it has "teeth". This is important if you want the blender to work properly as an actual tool for making food. The fully shrouded ones are not very effective.
(While this thing might look a bit more scary, the business end of any immersion blender is scary no matter how you view it so you might as well go for a design that actually works)
