The Sennheiser PC 363D are by far the best headsets on this list. I have a pair and I'm looking to get another for the g/f. The sound quality on both the mic and headset surpass the Logitech 933 and the Astros imo.
surround is from (and i didn't include this) the delay and volume from one ear to the other.... 7.1 headphones don't give that. They're still wired in stereo.
You don't need 7.1... Simulated surround works better because A)You have two ears, all you're doing is putting more drivers than needed in a cup that still work like stereo. B)You're paying more for the title gaming and extra drivers. Spend money on good open, semi-open or even a totally closed off headphone with a good soundstage. C) You're still relying on whatever sound is in the game engine you're using. If you want better surround experience either get better STEREO headphones because you have TWO eardrums. Ask anyone that's def in one ear, they will tell you they hear everything as if it's basically in a straight line and probably close to their ear. Human brain makes positional sound by hearing something in one ear, the sound reverberates off of something else and travels to the opposite ear, thus making positional sound. Cover your left ear with a finger by pushing that little tab looking part at the bottom of it (not the lobe) and snap to the right of you, raise the snapping above, below and around your head. You will notice it all sounds like it's in the same spot... You don't need physical 7.1 surround in a headphones. A proper 7.1/7.2 near field speaker setup on the other hand, because they are actually surrounding you and has room for sound to travel, it will be much better than simulated surround with stereo.
What is 'It'... Which one of the plethora of headphones is 'it' and what specs? Just as the gaming community is, they lack detail, clarity and class. Sounds like the gaming headphone market as well. Make them look nice, put a microphone on them, add lights, advertise 7.1 that either has seven drivers wired in stereo or two drivers that come with a USB amp/dac that sucks more than what's on your chinese phone.
I've heard that the G933/G633 have a lot of issues, if this drop were to happen I'd be hard pressed to consider a purchase until those issues were addressed.
Right, if you don't want a wireless headset. Audiophile grade wireless headphones are pretty expensive and a wireless mic? Modmic will not work in that situation.
Sooo: It's "gaming".
