SensupandaNot even that alone, the 980ti was created on the premise of creating a card based on the titan's architecture while being built for gaming performance like the 900 series cards. The whole concept of the titan and titan x is to create pure power consumer cards, while the 900 series are comprised for games optimized for gaming. If you look into the difference in performance between both cards, the difference is barely noticeable to the extent that some even say that the 980ti performs better than a titan x.
AstroWanas you say, the 980ti is a card 'based' on the T-X, I would rather take a shot at getting the original flagship model than a top tier knock off.. its like getting a corvette grandsport instead of a real Z06.
swatdoggyI understand what you mean, and to some extent would also agree that maybe that difference is like having something similar to having the real thing, but I also view it in the fashion that optimization for the 980ti can sometimes be better and show that performance is better for the 980ti; similar to how two engines may be similar in make and power, but by tuning the smaller engine and tweaking it, can out perform the larger one. Honestly, if they were priced more closely I would probably be in a similar dilemma as you in which one to buy, however, on the standpoint that the pricing is a $500 difference, I can't justify the price for little performance increase. At the end of the day, a Titan X is the top of the line and will be until Pascal is released, but for the pure matter of being consumer friendly, a 980ti is more reasonably priced for a consumer to consider buying than a Titan X.
AstroWani did want an evga 980ti classified because of jayz2c's and NCIX posting test vids and they declaring that the previous 980 classified was the fastest single processor gpu potentially at the time. and if it dropped here i would lasso 2 of em, but seems like people in the polls prefer msi,
but then i seen a nividia T-X review and then it overclocked like a boss just with a little more noise then the avg outside manufactured card. i was convinced thats definately the one to aime for if practical...which at its price its not lol
swatdoggyThe evga 980ti classified was going for 600 on newegg. I saw it just two days ago and it was still up yesterday so you may want to check there.
AstroWanactually its the old one with no back plate, its not a fail, but I didn't get it, good deal still, but id have to order 2 backplates
this one on MD seems to be solid, and I would love 2 EVGA 06G-P4-4998-KRs but ....... i guess $1200 on 2 special ed 980ti is ok I guess
im gonna get that rubber paint and spray the covers on the msi golden black
Best part, it's from newegg ;3
