I'm using a 1080 Ti for 144 fps gaming at 2k resolution on max settings. The only game that has stumbled to reach this is Fallout 76, and I mean... that's not much of a loss, is it?

damn you nvidia stealing the hard earned money i earned.... do'h i need to sell the 2070 for the 2060
GPUs... It would really depend on what you are trying to do and run. Are you running 3440x1440 UWQHD, 4K, 2560×1440 QHD, or VR. 1080 Ti cards can do most, but lack in the 4K range for high FPS. 1080 cards cannot push UWQHD past 60 FPS on most games. I have not done any testing on VR. I'm running a 4790K i7 that is water cooled on a 280 AIO, with 32GBs of dual channel ram, 960 Pro 500GB SSD, and a ASUS Stryx 1080. This setup does a good job but can't do it all. Like I said the 1080 just can't do a lot with the UWQHD and keep high FPS. If you are expecting high resolution as well as high FPS then I would look at a 2080 Ti. The 2080 is also highly optimized for VR and ready to go for VR Link (USB Type-C Connection for VR). If you already have a 1080 or 1080 Ti, I would not upgrade and wait till next year for the end of year GPU models. This will also give time for game studios to work with the RTX/Turning technology to implement in game. Just my thoughts on the matter.
no one should buy the 2080 cards until they have been released and tested, the ray tracing will not help the average gamer or streamer as there will not be content to utilize it for at least another year.

Lets agree to disagree, yes the rtx from AMD are now in competition with Nvidia but if you want your system to fail faster with a substandard GPU go for it, if you can't utilize a 2070 or 2080, right now.
Always buy the best card that you can afford. I learned the lesson the hard way.
Also, it is always a good idea to buy used graphic card because it is the same with better price tag. You can buy a used 1080ti on eBay with the budget of a new 1080.

you can get used gpu and run threw your integrated motherboard at banggood.com that being said you'll have to go threw several hoops to get the bios to accept unsigned drivers, the unsigned drivers for the gpu you buy and a ton or restarting the system ON Windows ONLY, sorry linux and ios....

i bought a 1080 mining gpu for $85.00 that would have become huge amount of e-waste
It’s been quite a while since Massdrop has been able to offer a true deal on these cards. With things calming down with crypto currency and the imminent relese of the RTX cards, the tim might be ripe for a really good deal on one of these cards, for those of us who don’t need or care about BiS.
GTX 1070 or GTX 1080

GTX 1070 rips 1080p and can even handle 1440 with high settings. With 60fps If you want 4k go GTX 1080.
