My advice for getting hard mousepads: Don't!
You want a high friction mousepad, but not something that wants to grind your mouse feet to bits. Nothing is quite as good as cloth for having the right amount of resistance, while also being smooth, and comfy too!
Now why do you want high friction? SCIENCE! On a hard low friction mouse mat, when your mouse stops, it sticks. You have to apply more force to get it moving again. When the mouse becomes unstuck, your reaction times mean you'll still be applying the extra force, and because of the low friction, your mouse will slip too far. Then when you stop it, it sticks again! This is stick slip motion.
With a cloth mouse mat, firstly, because the material yields to force, your mouse won't stick nearly as much. Secondly, when it does become stuck, when you unstick it, the higher friction means the mouse moves less, allowing you to aim precisely easier.
Now maybe you are worried about speed. If you need more speed don't get a low friction mat, push HARDER!
