There's no way that a company like Intel or AMD are going to give any substantial discount. The only way would be to go to a retailer but I don't know what kind if bulk discount they get and if they would give any discount either

sexyunicornMicro Center does it frequently. Though they're a retailer, Massdrop is principally similar. The only reason manufacturers have difficulty working with them most of the time is because Massdrop isn't technically a "retailer," let alone certified.
There's all sorts of intricate details based on what product Massdrop is trying to get from whom, but in general, this is one of the big reasons why. Time will tell whether or not manufacturers become more open-minded to this website's scheme.

DragonzeanseThere's nothing unique about this website's 'scheme'. They attempt to generate interest in a product and reward that interest with a discount. This isn't revolutionary.

MindoculusThat's an oversimplification of what Massdrop is. Bulk discounts are given primarily to companies that are moving large amounts of products, not to the general consumer. It doesn't have to be revolutionary to make a manufacturer pause for thought.
