Just added the Fostex FE103en kit from Madisound - a very reasonable computer / small room speaker that mates well with low-powered amps, is a <bit> less spendy than some of the other offerings, and all speakers sound much better with some of your blood on them (do NOT ask how I know this...)
Libby,
KEF LS50's please. If you can get them down to near $1K, I guarantee that you will blow the collective minds of the entire audiophile community, while creating incredible buzz for Massdrop. It's a win win situation for everyone! :)
My opinion is the B&W 685 S2's have the best overall sound profile, followed closely by the wharfedale 10.2. My vote goes to the B&W 685s only because right now BestBuy seems to have a monopoly on online pricing.
I own the Jbl 530 they are amazing! I really love them, also they look supper great in person. I hope if this becomes available we get to choose between black and cheery. I will buy another pair there that good!
I can confidently say straight away that first of all, the monitor audio bx2 isn't that good, the silver would be a much better choice, and that is not the B&W 685, it's the B&W 685 S2, which sound distinctly different. The B&W is the best out of all of them except maybe the JBL or the martin logan.
