The odds of getting a console to drop are very slim. Having worked retail I know that all of Sony's gaming money is made from first party accessories, self-published/distributed games, licensing fees and PlayStation Plus. Most console makers take a loss on every console sold to make a profit elsewhere. Companies like Best Buy and Amazon only have about a 5% markup and the retail price is set by Sony. Occasionally they'll authorize sales but those are individual in nature. Now bundled systems is another story. The discount can come off of a game or a controller while making a good profit off the other items in the bundle.
