If we are specifically talking about complete beginners, the Velocity would be one of the best choices here. The main thing that makes this the most suited for beginners is the ability to switch from responsive to unresponsive on the fly. My friend learned on one of these and had a really nice learning experience with it. At the same time, you can already get it for $15, so I cant imagine there would be that much of a discount for it.
