I own several pairs of tactical gloves, I can tell you now that I have owned both the Mechanix Original Covert and M-Pact Covert, they are both fantastic gloves if you are just looking for something to work on your car, or for something a little more "high performance".
LEOs may enjoy the M-Pact, they fit well, are moisture wicking and provides rear impact protection for the back of your hand. The gloves come with a useful pull-loop at the inside front wrist.
One caution is that these gloves are not flame-retardant, so beware of your intended application.
The first half-dozen models featured on this poll really come down to a preference in colour. My personal experience, the added padding in the M-Pact does not lessen the dexterity or feel of the glove significantly as with other "gel-impact" solutions I have tried on. I have a fairly large hand with a 3.5" span but generally wear the Medium size - it fits snugly, but not too tight.
Other options people might want to consider are Ironclad, but a lot of their "tactical" range is now sold under the 5.11 Tactical umbrella, of which I own both two sets of original Ironclads and two of the newer 5.11 tactical lines, although none of these other gloves I own feature "gel impact" or similar so I couldn't offer a good "operating" comparison with regard to the dexterity.
