Is there a precedent for whether MassDrop will be able to get decent dicounts on video cards?

folta@folta

Actually much the opposite.

Graphics cards, SSDs, and CPUs are all impossible right now. Average markup on those three products is about 5%.

Sadly there's no room to give ya'll decent prices.

Thanks for the votes though!

WillSince this isn't really discussed anywhere else. Is this site made for the purpose of allowing people to get good prices on cool things (usually from startups) that by themselves wouldn't have enough volume to make them for cheap, but with crowd-funding from MassDrop they can make them at a big enough volume to sell them at a good price?

DeCiB3l@DeCiB3l

That's definitely one way Massdrop works. Massdrop is made to negotiate the best prices possible on behalf of a group. That part doesn't change based on what the group wants. If you want lawn chairs, great, we'll call and negotiate for lawn chairs. If you want graphics cards, we'll do the same.

We try our best for every product but certain items aren't possible because they cost a lot to make, the manufacturer has exclusivity agreements, etc.

Now, items from startups generally work great! We've got a lot of value for new companies and products like those funded through kickstarter.

Thanks for the question!
