Thanks to tmdals0213 for starting this poll! We've contacted the vendor on your behalf and they've made the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro Headphones available.
For the price, the M-50s are excellent headphones. I use them weekly in professional recording sessions and they hold up well. I think that's a good situation to use them in: where you need high quality personal monitoring and you need multiple pairs with an eye on the price.
If you are springing for a single pair of high-end headphones, maybe you should go for the Sennheiser HD-650 or something similar. They are higher fidelity than the M50s but are also over 5x the price.
A lot of the options here are over $150...
And the M50 sees so many sales already that I don't know why this would be a poll here. I'd rather see lesser known quality headphones at the same price. Regardless, I didn't even think the m50s were a "must have". Definitely an upgrade if you're using skullcandy or earpods but it's not a must have end game set
I put up a new suggestion. The Blue Microphones Mo-Fi Powered High-Fidelity Headphones with Integrated Audiophile Amplifier from Bluemic. I think these things are pretty cool and early reviews seem like they are high quality. Check em out
I would like a pair of " Audio-Technica ATH-M50x" for outside / going to work and as a second pair. i own a Beyerdynamic T5p (closed brother of the T1)
Looking at a lot of reviews the M50 seems like a good allrounder.. What i like is that i can wear them outside and when not in use fold them up to my body and being able to move my head..
Also my T5 is more for relax listening at home then outside... or at work..
The m50s are overhyped and overpriced (especially since they cost ~$80 a year back). There are better headphones at this price point. That's not to say there aren't good headphones though. It's just that too many inexperienced people recommend them as the headphones of the gods (or because of buyer's guilt). Proof? Check the title of this poll. I'm betting that most if not all people considered to audiophiles have a much higher end set up.
I dont understand what everyone is complainign about, if we can get the m50x for less than 140, it would be fantastic. This poll is about the m50x not the old m50 everyone is talking about.
