For me the Scallion is the perfect Kershaw EDC, the Blur being a tad too large. I also would prefer a flipper. But the steel and handle on this knife are excellent. I'm in. I'm also glad it's not a Tanto.
Normal 440 or Sanvick steel blurs run arounds $45 in black, with satin blade.....this is S30V, blackwash blade, and blue anodized scales....BIG difference! But, to each his own....
I wish there was an option to choose aerated blade or not, I've always preferred the half aerated. Having said that I'll still prob jump on this, I lost my last Blur several years ago :(
Hey everyone, we're very excited to announce the arrival of the Kershaw Blur with a DLC BlackWash S30V blade. The DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating provides extra corrosion resistance and makes for a stealthy look that blends into the black Trac-Tec handle inserts. After applying the DLC coating the blades are tumbled to give them a BlackWash finish that hides any additional scratches from daily use.
Our goal was to bring a knife to the community that featured premium steel, a durable coating, and stylish good looks—all at an affordable price point. This is a project we have been working on for many months and have finally got the go-ahead from Kershaw to launch the drop as production is wrapping up. We're looking forward to the drop launching tomorrow morning!
I am definitely putting an alarm today to get in on this. Thankfully it isn't a tanto blade. I also preffer studs (spyder-holes > thumbstuds > flippers in my book) so this looks really nice to me.
This is a project that has been in the works for many months and is just now coming to fruition. We are still working on a community designed Spyderco sprint run!
I can understand MD trying to offer their unique product to its entire audience (including those with strict laws and regs). That said, why all the love for tanto? After sharpening several times they will resemble a drop point anyways. Don't get me wrong they look cool, but I've seen too many never-to-sorta sharpened tanto knifes of similar quality (154CM, VG-10, and S30V) that made me cringe.
The Blur occupies a very specific niche for me, and despite the fact that every single one of my friends with one says they shred your pockets, I'd still consider one . Not without three things, though: a good steel (got it), the glassbreaker (no sign of it), and last but definitely not least, the flipper, a.k.a. the #1 reason to buy a Kershaw anything.
The thumbstuds on my blur are great. Not a flipper, but they're the easiest thumbstuds to use I've encountered. Very glad it's not a tanto. I'd never get any knife I really intended on using in tanto or serrated because it makes it a huge pain to sharpen... As for the grip tape, I do find that my blur can be annoying to clip to my pockets because of the tape. That being said, I may get this anyway depending ont eh price because I like the idea of the S30V blade and the color. And I like Kershaw.
For S30V I'd expect it to be priced between 75 and 100, but not sure.
So is the "Trac-Tec grip tape" the sandpaper-like stuff they put on skateboards and stairs? Not sure I'm thrilled at a knife with that on the handle. Love the blade and the blue anodized handle though.
