I know it is not an option, and it doesn't exist, but I would love to see a special order (batch) of a Kinesis but with blue switches.

I am typing on a kinesis and I love it, and have the "key sound emulation" enabled, but it is not the real thing. Though it is very pleasant with the brown switches too..

If the price drops significantly I would maybe get an other one. I am curious though how much the price can drop. The pice on Amazon currently is US $269...

Could this go sub $200 ? I would consider a spare, though my Ergodox is on the way:) .. well... dropped, and not shipped yet AFAIK.
denesFWIW, while it would probably not be particularly cheap, kinesis is very hacker friendly, and will sell you all the parts without keyswitches so you can put your own in if you email them and ask. An example of someone who has done this: http://thoughts.skryl.org/post/60613686455/the-kinesis-conversion

Also, would anyone be interested in a 'kit' Kinesis with a user-reprogramable controller? I've been working on one based on the humble hacker firmware for my own use.
RyanC@RyanC Thanks for the tip. I didn't actually know that Kinesis was this open minded about hacking their products. For now I will wait for the Ergodox I just ordered here, and if I don't like it I will consider getting an other Kinesis and then a set of blue switches with it / for it. So busy with work I didn't have the time to mod it in any way, but I know that if something bad happens and I am left without it, I will be really-really badly going crazy going beck to the flat apple keyboard:) .. I already have a terrible time typing on my laptop sometimes.

Thanks again
Cheers
ferretwithasporkI was referring to the firmware. The Kinesis is indeed already programmable with respect to keymap and macros, with some limitations - for example, you cannot map arbitrary keycodes on it, and a few of the keys can't be remapped.
