The Sharpmaker like pigmonkeY said is just an edge honer not a true sharpener
Are you kidding me? You guys want a fucking Spyderco Sharpmaker?? WHY? :/
I personally own my own edge pro apex. One of the things I love about it is that there are 3rd party stones allowing for more flexibility.

Spoken like someone that's never used an edge pro.
I added the Tormek T-7 in here. If you want a very quick VERY sharp edge (it's not like going to 20K grit on an edge pro...) on everything from knives to scissors to shears to woodworking tools, this is how the pros do it.
I am not going to waste my time with anything but the Wicked Edge. I will save my pennies until its a reasonable choice.
edit: I may be persuaded into a Edge Pro...
We're currently in talks about getting the Spyderco Sharpmaker sourced and looking for a good source for the other top 3. I'll update here when we find out some more info so be sure to come back soon.
Thanks, Alex

I'd still kill for a drop of the sharpmaker paired with something that could be a good deal...
Well, sounds like you'll have to drop the Edge Pro! How unfortunate! ;)
The Wicked Edge is a complete system and can sharpen to almost any angle. Expensive but the edges are incredible.

That is the reason I put it up as an option.

I own the Wicked Edge system. Yeah, it's expensive but it's a fantastic system.
Spyderco sharpmaker is not really a true sharpener. With a TON of work, you can get there, but it's more for putting a nicely honed edge on an already properly profiled blade. An edge pro apex 4 kit can bring a totally blunt blade to razor sharpness and beyond.

I agree 100% on what you said about the Spyderco Sharpmaker (I don't have the other one, so I can't comment on that :-))
I own both an Apex Pro and Spyderco Sharpmaker and I have to say the edge I can get with the Apex pro is WAY better then the spyderco
