The AMD Radeon cards suggested in this drop represent a tremendous opportunity for Massdrop. AMD cards are in big demand in the US because of mining, and that has been driving prices up to ridiculous heights, well above MSRPs. If MassDrop could arrange a deal directly with these AMD card manufacturers, I think Massdrop could easily have prices $100 or more less than resellers like Newegg, making this is an excellent opportunity for Massdrop.

nukeThere's no way this is happening any time soon. Newegg orders graphics cards by the thousands and it'll be a long time before the Massdrop community has enough PC enthusiasts (where everyone can agree on buying the same graphics card) to get a volume discount that's better than Newegg's.

MarkI know it's a long shot, and I don't really expect much of a discount if any. However, I was under the impression that resellers like Newegg are hiking their own prices in response to the mining demand, and if that's the case then I think it's worth Massdrop at least asking a few of the AMD GPU manufacturers if there's a chance of getting a few. It wouldn't need to be a discount off of MSRP, but it could potentially be a discount as compared to most resellers.

nukeThe mining craze is slowing down now, at least compared to when LC was in the discovery phase. No one is buying the cards at newegg prices anymore. They're basically being complete asshats for keeping the prices at what they are right now instead of easing it off. Just look at the DCU2 r9 290x. It just came out a week +/- a few days and they instantly listed it at 699. Absolutely disgusting. I would understand if they had it at 679 max but no, they had to be complete dildos about it and screw over their customer base. I could get a 780ti for that price and I might as well (the gigabyte 780ti is actually cheaper than the 290x right now...)
