Hi All!
We were able to get a few straight razor options from Feather.
Check it out: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/feather-artist-club-ss-razor
Happy Buying!
Hello Everyone!
We've spoken with every company featured in this poll and we've noticed a couple themes among straight razor companies. First, demand outstrips supply. Second, production is quite slow and single large orders take a significant amount of time and effort to fulfill.
As such, we wont be able to offer any straight razors at this time. That said, we've got a number of companies who make Shavettes asking if our community would be interested. Shavettes are essentially straight razors that hold disposable blades. They're quite a bit cheaper and let you sample the straight razor shave without the serious financial commitment a solid straight razor requires.
Let us know if you're interested in Shavettes but as of now, we wont be able to list and straight razors for meaningful prices.
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS BEWARE:<br />Please consider that getting a straight razor though customs might be hard in some countries. Look it up, or face the risk that your package may never arrive!
Has there been any update from contacting vendors other than Dovo?
That Heirloom is extraordinarily expensive. I might take part in the Boker or Hart Steel, but $300+ is too much.
I have read many good reviews on the Hart steel. I have been learning a lot since this vote occured and my first two choices after what I have read would be either a Hart steel 6/8 (maybe 7/8) SQ point (cocobolo preferably) or a Thiers Issard spartacus 6/8. One of the advantage of the Hart steel is that it is REALLY shave ready and does not need to be honed like most other razors. But the Thiers Issard are close to shave ready too it seems.
We've contacted Dovo and asked about the Carpe Diem along with the others in their line. They told us that they are not interested in working with the group at this time and want to focus their energy on physical stores. We'll be reaching out to Heirloom and the others this week and will post an update once we know more. In the meantime, definitely keep adding more options to this poll.
I found some information on the internet on how to use a straight razor and 2 of them mentionned that a Norton 4000/8000 would be a good choice. Here is a link for one of them: http://www.shavemyface.com/downloads/The-Straight-Razor-Shave.pdf
I just thought I would chime in here about the sharpening supplies as a straight razor enthusiast... As for stones you generally need many different grits to hone a blade depending on it's condition. Some people use all the way from 320 to 12k such as: 320, 1000, 4000, 8000, 12000 (just an example set) which would be rather cost prohibitive. Furthermore, and I experienced this when I was new, getting a set with one stone made me think I could just sharpen it with a single stone... boy was I wrong. A strop however is an excellent choice for inclusion, as even someone who pays the relatively small price to get theirs professionally honed will need a strop. A set of nice Norton or Naniwa (just for example) stones might be a great idea for another separate group buy. ----- As for Boker vs. Dovo you'll be able to find plenty of enthusiasts that love Boker just as much if not more. I own one of each for example. Hope that helps a bit.
Any update if this poll will turn into a GB? If it does not, I might go for a safety razor instead, but I would still prefer to go for a straight razor. Hard decisions :)
I was thinking about both, since both are needed and I have none :) I don't know if many people have a wet stone for other purpose, but I dont. And from what I read you need a specific "grain" of wet stone. I suppose that unless you already have a straight razor, most people wont have a strop so I am pretty sure that at least the strop would be equally popular. Also, these Boker razors seems nice, but I never used a straight razor so hard to know for sure.
Per the result of this poll, I spoke directly with DOVO. By virtue of their razors being some of the best in the world, they are on a 12 month production backlog. Since you probably don't want to wait a year or more, what do you think about Boker razors? http://www.boker.de/us/straight-razor.html
How long does this poll last for before you can buy?
Anyone know if there will be an option to get the stuff you need to keep it sharp?

great idea! Are you thinking about a strop or a wet stone?
the Dovo Carpe Diem should be posted on http://www.papyruswatch.com/ rather than here, IMHO.
