Product Description
The ultimate acoustic experience? The natural one: where sound reaches your ears through the open air, from a source right in front of you. It’s not a difficult concept to wrap your head around. In the history of headphone design, however, it’s proven difficult to wrap it around your head. Until now. Meet the Drop + grell OAE1 Signature: a groundbreaking pair of headphones with game-changing driver geometry and an ultra-expansive soundstage.
The Drop + grell OAE1 Signature headphones are finally here, and we couldn’t be more excited!
It has been a long journey to get to this point. Together with Axel, we’ve shown the headphones at a number of shows, received feedback from trusted ears such as Jude Mansila of Head-fi.org, and tweaked the tuning along the way.
The OAE1 Signature are collectors items and limited to 1,000 units in total. All Signature headphones are individually measured before leaving the factory and the measurements are included inside the package. The Signature version also comes with two high quality cables, a carrying case, and as the name says—the headphones have Axel’s signature on them.
The headphones come with a 2-year warranty and our 30 day return policy applies to OAE1 Signature as well.
One goal with this launch was to minimize the wait time until the OAE1 Signature arrives. The headphones are in production and expected to arrive to our warehouse mid-June, and ship shortly thereafter to everyone. We look forward to getting these into your hands!
Edit to add: All orders, including international, will be shipping free! If you already purchased and paid for shipping, that cost will be refunded to you automatically.
First thing I've ordered here since the Koss/ MassDrop ESP 9** electrostatic headphones. I still use those a lot. Hope the forward located drivers bring something new to the game. Go Axel!
Heads up, I spent a few hours going back and forth between my HD 650 (same target FR as HD 6XX) and HD 800: https://drop.com/buy/drop-grell-oae1-signature-headphones/reviews/2954019
Before you read, I’ll emphasize that A/B comparing teases apart the character differences between headphones, and simply by describing them it may exaggerate the differences between them in your mind 😂 I can “get in the groove” with any of these headphones once I exclusively listen to them for awhile.
Something that I somehow missed but now I have to ask: earlier mentions of weight for the headphones were at roughly 270g, now it's 375g? Is it a typo or were heavier materials added?
I put the plate down to keep the headphone clean, but I tare’d it to 0. So, the 375g quote looks pretty accurate. That’s just 13.19 Oz though. That’ll be the aluminum, but I think people will feel it’s more premium than if it was ultralight or plastic. I wouldn’t mind a 3D printed resin prototype that’s crazy light, and I probably would have ruined the aesthetics further with a broader headband for my balding head, but I know other people rate quality lower if something isn’t metal or has some heft to match its size. From a practical standpoint though, I happily gamed on the demo for many hour stretches (I think I did 8 hour stretches two days in a row), so I can’t complain.
PiedPiperI'm also interested in the pads to reduce the bass to make them more neutral.
Axel said in an interview at Munich high end 24 that there will be pads to add even more bass or reduce bass to make them more neutral and suitable for studio work. I also hope they won't be too expensive! considering Dekoni's ear pads can be from 55$-100$ and there's shipping as well...
That review comes from a review sampling sent to a person who worked for DROP in the past, and he also did some work for Sennheiser as well as for Dekoni. But I believe he is the only person who has had the headphone for any time in their own space in order to review it so far. There have been some brief impressions of it from various shows where it's been available.
trellusThanks, and true. Can’t say things ended great between me and Dekoni, and there were some issues that weren’t ideal at Sennheiser either, but that’s a personal story 😂
for what it’s worth, I do enjoy them, but I tried to lay out the character in my review here before stating my subjective conclusion.
