Fantastic clean keycaps
I have used in the past the Drop Skylight white keycaps, Varmillo PBT keycaps that came with my VA86 keyboard, and more recently the Keychron KSA that came with my newer Q3 Pro. Compared to all the others the DCX is ABS instead of PBT offering a smoother texture while keeping a very thick structure. The legends are much crisper than any of the PBT models which is nice.
I miss the backlighting of the Skylight keycaps, but I've found difficult to find a RGB hue/saturation/brightness that would keep the Skylight white legends fully legible in all lighting conditions, and found that the crisp DCX legends pop even with just little desk lighting so I'm currently sticking with the DCX.
Interestingly, I feel that I type faster with the new DCX compared to the KSA keys. Not sure if it is the lower profile or the difference in sculpting of the keys.
I notice a bit of a difference in sound between the DCX and KSA, but barely any difference between the Skylight PBTs and the DCX ABS. At the end of the day I find the DCX sound pleasing enough on my Keychron Q3 Pro.
The build quality is very good.
It's personal preference but I am really liking the feel and speed of typing with the DCX compared to the other keycaps. I highly recommend this set.
There's nothing about this or any other DCX set that screams luxury, so the $100 price point is a bit much IMO. Still, a worthwhile buy on BOGO or other large discounts.
Mostly well made doubleshot ABS keycap set; overpriced at MSRP or street price
DCX white on black keycap set is comparable to GMK cherry keycap sets (same doubleshot construction), but texture is different and overall build quality is higher with GMK sets. DCX feels smooth and very much like MT3 keycaps, while GMK has a grittier texture. Both feel good to me, but your mileage may vary. DCX keycaps had some with stem "defects" that look terrible, but seem to work fine with switches. None of the DCX keycaps felt loose. Legends look good and evenly spaced. Both DCX and GMK keycaps weigh the same and sound the same. Overall, I am okay with the DCX set, but I would not recommend them at MSRP or "street" price. Unless there is a color way you absolutely love, it is probably better waiting for a BOGO or some other massive discount.
Not really much to say since its WoB, but it looks great. The base kit is pretty complete, the packaging has kept everything in their places, and its nice to be able to get dual 3u space bars for cheap.
These caps you think would be pricy given their basic colorway and legends, but once you actually put your hands on them for a few moments, you'll see why they're so highly rated! Sound (which obviously is influenced by many factors outside of just the caps) for this set is on the deeper end thanks to the double shot construction. The legends look extremely clean and the sizing is super nice on the letter keys.
